a better future. BACKGROUND: T he International Rescue Committee
(IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps
people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40
countries and 28 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope,
the IRC leads the way from harm to home. The IRC office in Miami
has been serving the community since the 1960s. Over the decades,
IRC in Miami has provided critical support to refugees, asylees,
survivors of human trafficking, unaccompanied minors, immigrant
youth, and their families. SCOPE OF DIGITAL INNOVATION INTERN WORK
: This internship is part of a new Digital Innovation initiative
within the Florida team, which is focused on exploring and
developing practical technology and AI-driven solutions to
strengthen services for survivors of human trafficking in IRC’s
Miami office. This initiative aims to identify opportunities to
improve program efficiency, enhance staff capacity, and expand
clients' access to resources through digital tools, automation, and
artificial intelligence . The Digital Innovation Intern will work
closely with th e team to help design, test, and implement new
technology-based projects. This may include developing simple
automation tools, piloting AI-assisted solutions, improving digital
workflows, and helping build internal tools that support program
operations. As this is a new and evolving initiative, the intern
will play an active role in shaping projects from the ground up.
This position is intended for tech-savvy individuals with strong
knowledge of computer systems who are doers—people who take
initiative, are creative problem-solvers, and are motivated to
build and test new ideas . The ideal candidate is curious,
innovative, and comfortable working in a startup-like environment
within a humanitarian organization, where initiative, adaptability,
and hands-on engagement are essential. Please note that all
internship positions are unpaid. RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist in
developing and piloting new digital innovations and AI-driven
projects to support IRC’s Anti-Trafficking program Identify
opportunities to improve program workflows through technology,
automation, and AI tools Design, test, and implement simple
technology solutions such as automated forms, internal trackers,
dashboards, or AI-assisted tools Support the exploration and
responsible use of AI tools to enhance administrative efficiency
and service delivery Help build and improve internal digital
systems using platforms such as Airtable , SharePoint, Power BI, or
similar tools Conduct research on emerging technologies and
recommend practical applications to support program goals
Collaborate with staff to understand operational challenges and
help develop technology-based solutions Test new tools and
prototypes, gather feedback, and support iterative improvements
Assist in organizing, managing, and improving digital data systems
and processes Document systems, workflows, and innovation projects
to support sustainability and scalability Develop simple guides or
training materials to support staff adoption of new tools Maintain
confidentiality and ensure ethical and responsible use of
technology and AI QUALIFICATIONS: Strong computer systems knowledge
and a high level of technical proficiency Self-starter with a
strong sense of initiative and ability to take ownership of
projects Creative thinker with an interest in innovation,
problem-solving, and building new solutions Ability to work both
independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, evolving
environment Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism and
confidentiality Current undergraduate or graduate student, or
recent graduate, in a relevant field such as Computer Science,
Information Systems, Information Technology, Engineering, Data
Science, Artificial Intelligence, or related field An interest in
international affairs and refugee/immigrant issues Creativity and
initiative to follow through on projects A strong desire to help
people and enthusiasm to work in a multi-cultural setting Time
management Submit intern hours on the volunteer dashboard.
REQUIREMENTS: Must submit intern hours on volunteer portal. Must
pass a background check. Must commit of 15 hours per week for a
minimum of 3 consecutive months. Must be at least 18 years old.
Must be authorized to work in the United States. Please note that
we are unable to provide sponsorship for a US work authorization.
This will be an in-person role. This role will report to the
Immigrant Youth Program Coordinator . The internship will be filled
on a rolling basis. We will continue to accept applications until
April 10 th , 2026, or until the position is filled, whichever
occurs first. Internship will begin the week of May 11 th , 2026.
